A Variety Of The Best Movies From The Very Prolific Thespian, Kevin Bacon

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

One actor who has been around the block once or twice is Kevin Bacon. Kevin Bacon has made quite a nice career for himself in Hollywood, spanning for just over three decades. After going through his movie catalog, it is quite clear that Bacon has had quite the illustrious career.

This article will discuss what I consider to be the greatest films starring or featuring Kevin Bacon.

One of the best movies that featured Kevin Bacon is JFK. Now, I am not the biggest fan of Oliver Stone films, but I have to give praise where praise is due. JFK is just a great film, and probably the director’s second best film next to Platoon.

Few people realize that Kevin Bacon’s first movie was actually Animal House. While I am not sure if this was his breakout movie, it still was one of his best. Animal House paved the way for pretty much every other college comedy that followed suit.

Another great film starring Kevin Bacon was Footloose. When it comes to iconic dancing films, Footloose is hard to beat. I would consider this movie, along with Saturday Night Fever, to be the two most important movies in the genre.

Mystic River very well might be my favorite of any film that stars Kevin Bacon. Bacon plays a cop in this movie, focusing on a murder of a teenage girl who happens to be the daughter of Bacon’s good friend, played by Sean Penn. Penn is incredible in this movie as well.

Finally, I will include Hollow Man on this list. Ok, maybe it is not actually a good movie, but is it enjoyable? Very much so. As a fan of horror films, I truly enjoyed this movie and thought it was a great concept.

These are just some of the best Kevin Bacon films of his career. With so many movies under his belt, it is tough to limit it to just five.

A Variety Of The Most Hilarious Acting Performances From The Very Popular Performer, Paul Rudd

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

These days, there are a handful of actors who seem like they appear in every movie. One of those people is definitely Paul Rudd. This funny and likable actor has been around for at least 15 years, but it was only recently that his popularity exploded to new heights. Ask any 20 something year old girl who their favorite funny actors are you are likely to hear Paul Rudd as one of their answer.

But which of his movies are the best? Here are some of my favorite Paul Rudd movies of the past few years.

The first movie that I will mention is Role Models. This movie stars Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott as a duo of troublemaking adults, who end up having to enroll in the big brothers little brothers program in order to avoid jail time. Hilarity ensues.

Another movie that stars Paul Rudd that is definitely one of my favorites is Clueless. This is a classic 1990s film and a role that Paul Rudd himself probably is not proud of. He actually plays a serious role in this film, for a change.

Another great movie that Paul Rudd appears in is Wet Hot American Summer. This movie is somewhat of a cult classic; anyone you know who has seen this movie probably loves or hates it. It’s a very specific type of humor.

I Love You, Man definitely makes the list for me as well. This movie focuses around a duo of newly formed friends in Paul Rudd and Jason Segal. This movie has some truly uncomfortable scenes, as Rudd’s character tries to befriend another man. It is much funnier than I make it sound.

Anchorman is another film that certainly makes my list. This one might be my favorite Paul Rudd movie of any. Even more than five years after its release, you still hear people quote the iconic Will Ferrell character all the time.

So these are most of Paul Rudd’s funniest and enjoyable films to date. There is no doubt that there will be others to add to this list in the next few years.

Will Smith And His Best Roles In Years Past

Monday, April 11th, 2011

When it comes to discussing my favorite actors and actresses, one person who has to be thrown into the discussion is Will Smith. I don’t think he is as talented as some of my other favorite actors, such as Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale, but I think he is a tremendous personality and I will see any movie he stars in.

The following films are my personal favorite movies starring the great Will Smith.

The first movie I will mention is Hitch. If you are looking for a funny and enjoyable film, this is a great option. Smith stars as the title character, who is a consultant to help get guys the girl of their dreams. This movie also stars Eva Mendez and Kevin James.

One movie that definitely has to be included on my Will Smith list is Bad Boys. The original film in this duo of Michael Bay films has it all. It is hilarious and action packed, yet definitely not a comedy. Martin Lawrence is great as Smith’s partner in crime.

When it comes to his most impressive acting, I would have to say that Pursuit Of Happiness tops the list. It was in this film that I believe Will Smith gave the acting performance of his career. If he didn’t win an Oscar for this movie, then I don’t think it is ever coming.

Another great acting performance from Will Smith was delivered in Seven Pounds. This is a mysterious film with a trailer that was even more mysterious. We did not know what to think going into this movie, but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

The last movie I will mention in this article is Hancock. I went into this movie expecting another generic superhero film, but it ended up being surprisingly good. The movie takes a serious turn about halfway through, and it becomes a better movie because of it.

As it stands, these are my favorite Will Smith roles to date.

A Few Of The Best Acting Performances From The Incredibly Likable Actor, George Clooney

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

One of the cooler actors out there is George Clooney. A lot of girls obviously love him, but guys don’t seem to have a problem with him either (a tough combination to come by). What makes Clooney even cooler is the fact that he is actually a good actor.

This article will discuss what I consider to be George Clooney’s greatest films up to this point in his career.

The first film that definitely makes the cut is Three Kings. This film is constantly cited as one of the better films depicting the Gulf War. In addition to Clooney this movie also happens to star Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube.

Another great movie starring George Clooney is Ocean’s Eleven. There have since been two sequels to this casino heist remake, but the first film is still the best. If you like clever films or heist films (or both), this is definitely a good one to watch.

Up In The Air is another film that cracks my top five favorite George Clooney movies. I loved everything about this movie, from the soundtrack to the dialogue to the cinematography. Clooney was fantastic in this film.

Any list of Clooney films has to include The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Sure, this is an animated picture, but that does not take away from it being a great film from one of the most talented directors working today, Mr. Wes Anderson.

One other great movie that makes this list is Michael Clayton. This film is one of the best performances from George Clooney in his career. Clooney is nothing short of brilliant in this thriller that received several Oscar nominations.

I hope that there are one or more films on this list of George Clooney movies that you have not yet seen.

A Variety Of The Most Memorable Movies By The Iconic, James Cameron

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

There is little argument that James Cameron is one of the greatest minds, if not the greatest, behind the lens in Hollywood today. It seems that every film Cameron comes out with is revolutionary in its own way. He is never afraid to break new barriers and try things that have never been tried before.

This article will highlight what I consider to be the greatest works, we as moviegoers, have been presented by the great James Cameron.

The first movie I will mention is one of his earliest works, and that of course, is Aliens. Who would have thought that Cameron would be able to rival, if not exceed, the brilliant job that Ridley Scott did with the first Alien film.

I have to give some love to True Lies. This is an action film that I grew up on, and few films since have rivaled it in explosions and action packed fun. This is an awesome movie, and Michael Bay can only wish he could put together an action movie like this.

While I am not the biggest fan of romantic films, Titanic was on another level. There is no doubt that James Cameron hit a grand slam with this movie, which is clearly indicated by its pretty much unrivaled box office success.

Avatar obviously makes the cut for any true James Cameron film. I had the privilege of going to the filming of Inside The Actor’s Studio with James Cameron, and it was amazing to hear everything he had to say about this movie. Sounds like the second installment will focus more on the underwater life of Pandora.

People have their differences in opinion, but for me, it never got better than the original Terminator film. Kyle Reese goes back in time in this 1984 classic to save Sarah Connor from an evil Terminator sent to kill her, played by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

As it stands, this is my James Cameron best-of list. Let’s see what happens when Avatar 2 comes out.

The Greatest Tarantino Movies Throughout The Years

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Trying to comprise a list of the greatest Quentin Tarantino films is no easy task. It seems that every movie the man comes out with becomes a cult classic. There is no doubt that few directors have the cult following that Tarantino does. He is just that good.

This article will highlight what I consider to be the best movies written or directed by Quentin Tarantino.

No list of Tarantino films would be complete without giving mention to Reservoir Dogs, which was the breakout film for this iconic director. This film was done on a severely limited budget, but with a star cast including Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Madsen, you might not realize that.

Another amazing movie by Quentin Tarantino that must be mentioned is a movie from the Kill Bill saga. In my opinion, it flows as one movie, but do to its length (it would be over 4 hours long if it were one movie), it had to be split up into two. Volume 1 features more fighting and action, while Volume 2 features more dialog and resolution.

One movie that absolutely has to be on any list of Tarantino films is Pulp Fiction. This is considered one of the best films of all time by many, and it comes as no surprise to those that have seen it that it ranks amongst the top 15 films of all time according to imdb.com.

Another fantastic Tarantino film is True Romance. Tony Scott actually directed this movie, but it was Quentin Tarantino who wrote the script, and it clearly shows. My favorite scene from this movie is the scene with Christopher Walken and the late Dennis Hopper. Classic Stuff.

The last spot on my list goes to Inglorious Basterds, Tarantino’s latest creation. Sure this movie is a work of fiction, but if you take it as such, it becomes a very enjoyable movie very quickly. One of the better films of its year.

Hopefully there are one or more films from the great Quentin Tarantino on this list that you have yet to see.

This Fall’s Most Quality TV Shows

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

This article will discuss the phenomenon that is television in the fall. There are way too many shows for the average person to get through in a given week. It is truly the only time of year that I find myself having to catch up on my TV watching. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing, but hey, it is what it is.

So what are the best shows on tv during the fall? Here are some shows that I have on my rotation.

It goes without saying that one show that I watch religiously is Dexter. Dexter is probably my favorite show of all. It is probably one of the most suspenseful shows you can possibly watch, and my friends and I love every minute of it. It’s one of those shows you can easily get hooked on and find yourself watching several episodes in a day.

When it comes to comedies, it is hard to get a show better than South Park. Sure, they constantly push the button, but is there any show besides CNN broadcasts that is as up to date on current events as South Park? I think not.

Always Sunny In Philadelphia is another hilarious comedy. This show has been on for at least five seasons, and shows no signs of slowing down. This show is like Seinfeld if Kramer was the smartest one of the bunch.

I was reluctant at first, but Modern Family has quickly become one of my favorite shows on all of television. Ty Burrell, who plays Phil on this show, might be the funniest character on television. Ed O Neil is also hilarious as always.

Another TV series that has definitely caught my attention is Boardwalk Empire. This new show stars Steve Buscemi as one of the pioneers of Atlantic City at a time when prohibition was in full effect.

There are too many great shows on during the fall months to count, but these are ones that stand out in my mind.

Matt Damon’s Best Roles In Recent Memory

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Matt Damon is a pretty good actor. I wouldn’t say he is the best out there, since many of his roles are similar, but I really like the guy and I like most of the movies he stars in. I also like that he does not take himself too seriously, which is indicated by his ridiculous roles in Eurotrip and on Entourage.

The following films are what I consider to be the greatest movies starring or featuring Matt Damon in a leading or supporting role.

The first movie that I will discuss is Rounders. Damon stars as an up and coming, yet troubled poker player named Mike McDermott. This is a suspenseful movie and one of the better gambling movies around.

Another awesome Matt Damon movies is Good Will Hunting. There is little doubt that this is the film that put both Damon and Ben Affleck on the map. In fact, they also wrote the screenplay together, for which they received an Academy Award.

Ocean’s Twelve is another film that I will include on this list. I loved the first film, Ocean’s Eleven, but Matt Damon has a bigger role in the second installment. This is the movie where they let Linus (Damon’s character) take on a bigger part of the heist.

One other film that I definitely have to mention is The Bourne Identity. The Bourne movies are based on the character made famous in the novels by Robert Ludlum, and while the action is better in the second film, the first installment is wherever everything begins.

The final movie that makes the cut for me is Green Zone. This movie is similar to the Bourne movies in quite a couple ways, but is definitely more of a politically based film.

It is clear after going through his movie catalog that Matt Damon has had quite his fair share of great movies.

The Most Memorable Jeff Bridges Performances In Years Past

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

This article will focus on the career and movies of Jeff Bridges. Bridges has been acting for over 40 years and has quietly established himself as one of the better actors in the industry. If you ever read magazine interviews with actors and actresses, anyone who has worked with Bridges only has great things to say. It comes as no surprise that such a great actor gets to star in great movies.

This article will discuss what I consider to be the top five best Jeff Bridges movies.

One movie that I will definitely include on this list is K-PAX. This is a peculiar film about a person who claims that is a visitor from a foreign planet. Bridges and Kevin Spacey star in this film.

Arlington Road is another film that I certainly will discuss. This movie is not for the faint of heart, and is an incredibly gripping film. While Jeff Bridges is great in this film, the true star of this movie is his neighbor, Tim Robbins.

Another movie that I would definitely include on this list is Tron. This is one of the founding fathers of both science fiction and special effects driven movies, and I cannot wait to see what Tron 2 will look like in 3D. The sequel will also star Bridges.

One movie that is impossible to not include on my Jeff Bridges list is Crazy Heart. It is not so much the movie that is great, but Bridges’ performance. In this film, he plays a washed up country singer named Bad Blake. This is a character piece at its finest.

To not put The Big Lebowski on this list would be a shame. This film has become such a cult classic that bowling leagues across the country have sprouted up in its honor. This is definitely one of the better comedies of the nineties.

These are just my personal favorite Jeff Bridges movies, but there are definitely some other great ones as well.

The Greatest Mel Gibson Performances Of All Time

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Regardless of how we feel about the guy, Mel Gibson is one actor who has had his fair share of incredible movies. Whether those movies will have the same replay value remains to be seen. I have personally not tried to watch a Mel Gibson movie in quite some time. But regardless, up until recently, I would have to consider him to be one of my favorite actors.

Seeing that his career is likely over, this article will discuss what I consider to be the greatest Mel Gibson movies.

One movie that I will include on this list is Ransom. What an awesome movie this was. Mel Gibson stars as a wealthy businessman who has his little son kidnapped, only to be held for a ransom. Mel’s character turns things around and puts a ransom on the kidnapper’s head.

One movie that must be mentioned on any list of great Mel Gibson films is Braveheart. I haven’t tried to watch this movie recently, but I truly hope that Mel Gibson’s recent antics won’t tarnish the role of William Wallace for me. This remains one of my favorite films of all time.

Another great movie that stars Mel Gibson is The Man Without A Face. I am actually impartial to this film because one of my good friends had a small role in it. Mel plays a recluse with a disfigured face in this movie.

One underrated film that starred Mel Gibson was Payback. This movie is about a man who is left to die after his best friend and wife betray him. Everything that happens after is awesome.

One other great movie that deserves to be included on this list is The Patriot. I was skeptical when this movie came out, because I feared it would be too similar to Braveheart. While there are similarities, The Patriot was its own movie and I really liked it.

With a career spanning about thirty years, Mel Gibson did some serious damage in Hollywood. Then he did some serious damage to his career.
