Making Your Headlines Convert
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012Whether it’s email newsletters, article marketing content, or sales letters, headlines are vital. Failing to have an excellent headline can actually prevent your content from being read. There are all kinds of reasons that some headlines work better than others. Here are just a few reasons yours might not be working. Let’s see what we’ve got here …
Understand that you only have about 8-seconds to convince readers to stick around. You can’t expect your prospect to feel all puzzled and confused after reading your headline, because that would simply make him hit the exit button. You need to offer him as much clarity as possible by giving away your main unique selling point right in the headline. Your audience wants you to be straight with them. Writing a revealing headline lets your audience know that your content is going to matter to them – and why it matters. That’s what’s important, after all. Make your offer from a somewhat unique perspective or point of view. Use your headline, in other words, to really drive a selling point within the content home. This is a method that works wonders to filter out people who aren’t really interested in what you have to offer and really “sell” those who are interested before they’ve seen anything else from you.
However, make sure that the headline doesn’t lose its meaning or charm in the quest to insert the main benefit. When you do manage to do this you’re not only giving that little kick of interests to readers but also a hint about what’s inside.
Consider creating headlines that stir up controversy. This is a great way to create a headline that really grabs the attention of the reader and keeps him/her glued. When you create such a headline, it becomes easy for you to get your reader to read further. Just make sure that it doesn’t stretch the imagination so far that it makes you look less believable.
There is more to writing great headlines than artistic writing ability, and that would be knowledge and experience. Unless you give them what they are looking for and clearly pass on the message, nothing will happen. You can also experiment with different headlines because that can work if you know what you are doing. You can find a tremendous amount of information on the web that is devoted to headline writing.
