Where the Wild Things Are Movie is a fantasy story in which a dejected nine year old boy gets to become the king of an island where the “wild things” inhabit. Max Records plays the role of the nine year old and story consists of the adventures of Max in his journey to the island which is said with a combination of emotion and adventure.

As Max’s mom and sister upset him he gets fed up and leaves home on a journey to an unknown place. He just wanders off and finds himself a boat in which he sails off to the island. In the island he gets dressed in a wolf costume and just roams about. It is now when he is attacked by seven large creatures from the jungle.

Max who is now caught up in a dangerous situation of getting eaten up by the creatures lies that he is the king who has arrived for bringing about harmony in the group. He also adds to make them believe the same by saying that he has got magical powers. The wild thing yields to his lies and believes him. He at last realises how he much he has put his mom through and decides to return to his home.

The whole plot is a very interesting drama and the movie though being a fantasy film manages to connect emotionally with the people. This is one of the major reasons for the movie successfully ending as one of the top ten movies of the year 2009. The movie is a blend of live action, computer generated imagery and animation. It also stands unique with the lead character of the movie being dressed up in a wolf costume.

The film was directed by Spike Jonze and the movie was promoted with adults in mind rather than focusing children alone. Though the film had a successful opening, it did not manage to recoup the 100 million dollars that was invested in production of the movie. The movie which was released in Australia, UK, Ireland and Germany is slated for release in Russia in 2010.

The film did not generate any profit for the producers nevertheless it was critically acclaimed and it received a 73% fresh rating. The movie was widely appreciated for creating the “otherworldly” feel so beautifully. It had a great deal of innovation being put forth. However the film was also criticized for the worn out look it sported with progression.

However the film being meant for children had scenes in which the children were shown to portray adult emotions such as violence and threat. For these reasons the film was made under the parental guidance status at theatres. The director later quoted on this point saying that this was a film about children and not for them on the whole.
